Detecting Heart Conditions with PET

In the case of blood flow problems due to occlusions or severe narrowing of the coronary arteries, the cells of the heart muscle are not supplied with sufficient oxygen. This type of examination detects these areas with insufficient blood supply, but vital, with the help of a radioactive substance injected into the vein. Cardiologists can reactivate this heart muscle tissue on the basis of the nuclear medicine images.
